Whispering Willow | Handcrafted Soap, Lip Balm and Related Products
Tonight, the gift guide giveaway series continues with Whispering Willow Soap Company. Sustainable, natural and beautiful – the Whispering Willow Soap Company products are sure to bring smiles to your loved ones this holiday season. Owners Wayne and Julia are a husband and wife team committed to natural and sustainable living. Wayne shares their story below:
“Producing and selling American-made products ties me to my industrious and inventive American heritage. For centuries Americans have worked with their hands and their minds to create and achieve that which inspired awe and wonder. We are truly standing on the shoulders of giants. As modern society continues to evolve and we start taking into account the true cost of a global supply chain, I believe we will see a continued renewal of local and regional production meeting the needs of consumers. It is my hope, that as we contribute high quality American-made products to the marketplace that we are a stone in the foundation upon which the next generation shall construct our American future.
Whispering Willow is Julia and Wayne, a husband and wife team who are committed to living and promoting a simpler and more natural way of living. We do this primarily by selling natural, handcrafted bath and beauty products which we make in our home using organic ingredients and eco friendly packaging.
We started making natural bath products because Julia has very sensitive skin and is not able to use store bought products. We had several local soap makers that we supported but we decided it would be something fun we could do together. After considerable research, several experiments and a few mistakes we finally arrived at a recipe that we were happy with. We started forcing our creations on friends and family members and found that not only did they not complain, they asked for more!
It was then that the seed was planted and over the past two and half years we have been blessed with wonderful support, a good bit of luck and some of the best customers a small business could hope for. We peddle our wares online, at local farmers markets and at regional craft shows and festivals. Our motto this year has been, ‘have tent, will travel!’. While all the activity can be tiring it has given us a chance to see and learn more about our region, meet some wonderfully creative folks and take advantage of all the culinary talents that the Southeast has to offer. (Who wouldn’t love that?)
We are so fortunate that the business has grown to the point where it can support me full time. I left my “corporate” job in January and since have enjoyed the title of “professional crafter”. While we believe Whispering Willow will continue to grow and will soon be able to support Julia as well, we aren’t sure what will happen beyond that point. We don’t know if we want to try to be the next big handmade soap company or if we will be content for the business to be just big enough for us to handle ourselves. I suppose we can only cross that bridge when we come to it.
With all of this in mind I am certain of one thing; that my worst day as a professional crafter is infinitely better than the best day of my previous career. While I have always felt fortunate to work for great folks at good companies, nothing can compare to the people, places and experiences of the past year! ”
Enter to Win by leaving a comment on this post. Visit the Whispering Willow website and let us know which product you would be most likely to purchase. I personally love the soy candles. There will be two winners randomly selected on December 16th and contacted via email.
The first winner will receive an eco-friendly Holiday Gift Box. Wayne describes the box as follows: “I’ve always had a bit of trouble with gifts. I love giving them, but don’t like the process of wrapping and putting them together for presentation. I want it to look pretty, but wrapping paper is not particularly eco-friendly. With these thoughts in mind, we put together a very simple (yet pretty) gift box. These boxes are made of 100% recycled material (80% post consumer recovered fiber) and are 100% recyclable. The bow is made of 100% natural fiber crinkle paper from managed forests and is colored with water soluble inks. The product inside is protected by all natural and 100% recycled paper shreds. The contents include one bar of hand crafted, all natural soap enriched with shea butter, one tube of beeswax based lip balm and a jar of wonderfully rich whipped shea butter. All items are scented with lavender essential oil to provide a calming and relaxing spa experience with every use.”
The second winner will receive one 6 oz natural soy candle with lavender essential oil. The candle has been poured into a gorgeous ceramic container handcrafted by Jeanette Zeiss and contains a wooden wick that sounds like a fire while burning.
