The Olive and Rose | Handmade Brass and Coin Necklace

Tonight’s Gift Guide Giveaway feature is coining a new path for fashion and jewelry. Owner of The Olive and Rose, Sandy Bryan, shares her story below:

“I am a person who loves buying, selling and displaying all things vintage.  I have always collected vintage but began selling (seriously) when an interior consultant advised me that I had too many collections and needed to share my things at her Paris Flea Market.  It was through that experience that I realized I loved to display and share my finds with others; passing along the story of the object, and helping find a place for it in their homes.

I am proud of all the experience I have amassed over the past 10 years, beginning at selling the local college flea markets to now some of the best Antique shows in the country.  In between, I even co-owned a great retail co-op for four years! Now, I love producing antique shows and bringing together great talent and vintage items for others to find…while of course, shopping and selling along the way!!”

Lovely! I have a modest collection of coins and paper money. When traveling, I make sure that I come home with enough to keep and share and friends and family return the gifts. I also have many old silver dollars, wheat and Indian head coins, and other US money. My favorite is a tightly rolled silver certificate dollar bill still held tight by a tiny pink ribbon. My grandfather placed it in my hand on the day I was born. Priceless!

Going through them was a lot of fun and while he’s not around to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day, I was blessed with finding just one silver sixpence in all of those coins. I plan to put it in my shoe and remember that he will be with me on that day.

  30. I love all things vintage and have made several necklaces for friends from old rosaries and key hole decorative metals, skeleton keys, typewriter keys, etc. My mother recently bought a beautiful necklace/earring set of antique coin and turquoise pieces she had commissioned that are amazing. I don’t necessarily collect coins but have kept coins from places we travel and coins from my husbands grandfather’s stent in Japan while he was stationed during WWII. I would absolutely love and treasure one of these pretty pieces of art! Thank you for the chance to win.

I’ve worn a nickel on a chain for the past 20 years in rememberance of a baby I lost at 30 weeks, his name was Nicholaus and I had nick named him “Nickels”. It was one of the little ways of learning to cope with his loss and keeping his memory close, but I love the look of coins as necklaces as well.

  37. Bridgitte says:

Your creations are beautiful and remind me of years of coin collecting as a child. Also stamp collecting. My son who will celebrate his 30th birthday this New Years Eve recently “got the coin collecting bug” and recruited my granddaughters that are 10 and 4. It’s great to see them immediately look at the coin, the date, run to their collections and see if they have it. On a recent visit I turned over my silver dollar and half dollar collection to the three of them. They had to recite the “Oath of Coin collecting” I made up years ago in an attempt to get my kids to save their money! Great to see the tradition passing on to another generation. I’m presenting them with my grandmothers penny collection at Christmas. This will then become a 5 generation collection! I am soooo excited to share it with them. It’s been tucked away for years while part of it is hanging on my mothers spare bedroom wall. What fun it will be to watch their eyes brighten as they see coins they’ve never seen! Thanks for sharing your necklace here. Going to check out your website!!!
